Aurora R10, HeatSink on m2port for ssd?
Hi,
I'm buying a Aurora R10. I'd like to swap the NvME SSD it comes with a WD_BLACK SN850 1TB Internal PCI Express 4.0 x4, which comes without HeatSink.
Does the R10 m2 port have HeatSink? I'm reading this SSD runs hot and there might be issues without HeatSink on either the ssd or the desktop.
Many thanks in advance for your help

The OEM M2 NVME drive does not have a heatsink installed on it. The slim form factor of the WD heatsink should fit OK, but just keep in mind there is very little space for a heatsink on an M2 drive because the M2 drive slot is right behind the slot side of the GPU.

You'd have to check WD to see if they sell the heatsink by itself, but from my understanding WD sources it from EKWB (i.e., the SN750 comes with an EKWB heatsink with WD lettering). So basically the heatsink is comparable to this one (minus the lettering and WD specific design):

is it possible to buy heatsink for the WD SSD separately? The one I bought comes without it
Thank you for your reply

Thanks. That's helpful. I honestly did not even know what exactly heat sink was.
To recap, I can likely buy a third-party heat sink to add to the WD nvme; attach it to the R10 m2 primary port (replacing the default aurora nvme ssd), and hope it fits in the case with the heat sink.
Thank you

So did the heatsink fit? I have aurora r10 and didn't want to buy a heatsink too big

Just wanted to add this ...
These M.2-2280 form-factor NVMe SSDs that run a little hot ( when heavily stressed ) ...
If they are sold without a heatsink, they will run fine that way as long as there is a little case ventilation (similar to how RAM DIMMs and other parts are cooled). Instead of covering them up with a heat-sink, you can just let the normal cool air flowing-over the actual chips to cool them.
